Getting from Dokos to Syros
If you are heading to Syros from Dokos you are making your way from an uninhabited rocky island in the Saronic Gulf to the capital of the Cyclades, on the opposite side of Greece. It has a neoclassical port city of grand mansions and an opera house modelled on La Scala that is one of the most distinctive urban environments in the Greek islands.
Take the ferry
There are no scheduled ferries from Dokos. Dokos has no ferry service and is accessible only by water taxi from Hydra, Spetses or Ermioni, with the crossing from Hydra taking around 30 minutes. Getting to Syros means arranging a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra, taking the Saronic ferry from Hydra to Piraeus, which takes around 1 hour 5 minutes to 2 hours, and then taking the Piraeus to Syros ferry, which runs up to 6 daily crossings in summer and takes around 2 hours on the fast boat.
Getting there by air
Syros has a small domestic airport with limited connections from Athens. Dokos has no airport. Taking the water taxi from Dokos to Hydra, the Saronic ferry to Piraeus and then taking the ferry from Piraeus to Syros gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. Flights to Syros are limited so the ferry from Piraeus is often more practical after arriving in Athens. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Arrange a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra before leaving the island, take the Saronic ferry to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Syros ferry. At around 2 hours on the fast boat it is one of the quickest Cyclades connections from Athens. Pre-arrange your water taxi departure as you cannot hail a boat once you are on Dokos.
