Getting from Dokos to Piraeus

If you are heading to Piraeus from Dokos you are making your way from an uninhabited rocky island in the Saronic Gulf to the largest port in Greece and the gateway to Athens and the wider ferry network.

Take the ferry

There are no scheduled ferries from Dokos. Dokos has no ferry service and is accessible only by water taxi from Hydra, Spetses or Ermioni, with the crossing from Hydra taking around 30 minutes. Getting to Piraeus means arranging a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra and then taking the Saronic ferry from Hydra to Piraeus, which takes around 1 hour 5 minutes to 2 hours with up to 12 daily crossings year-round. It is a straightforward two-step connection and Piraeus is one of the most frequent ferry destinations from Hydra.

Getting there by air

Piraeus has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens International, around 45 kilometres to the east. Dokos has no airport either. Taking the water taxi from Dokos to Hydra and the Saronic ferry to Piraeus gives a total journey time of around 2 to 3 hours and is the most direct approach.

Your best option

Arrange a water taxi from Dokos to Hydra before leaving the island, then take the Saronic ferry directly to Piraeus. Pre-arrange your water taxi departure as you cannot hail a boat once you are on Dokos. From Piraeus the metro takes around 20 minutes to central Athens. The coves of Dokos empty out in the late afternoon when day boats leave so plan your departure around the last water taxi of the day and the evening ferry connections from Hydra.
