Getting from Mykonos to Milos

So you're heading from Mykonos to Milos. Good choice. Milos has been on everyone's radar for a few years now and for good reason. The beaches are unlike anything else in the Cyclades and the island has managed to hold onto a lot of its character despite the growing crowds. Getting there from Mykonos takes a bit more time than some of the other Cyclades hops but it is well worth it.

The route is direct and runs regularly through summer.

Take the ferry

Direct ferries run between Mykonos and Milos through the summer season and the crossing takes around 3 to 4 hours on a fast ferry. It is a longer crossing than some of the shorter Cyclades hops but the boat ride through the archipelago is genuinely scenic. SeaJets covers this route regularly in peak season. Book ahead in July and August, Milos has become one of the most in demand islands in Greece and the ferries reflect that.

What about flying?

Milos has an airport and Mykonos has an airport, so flying is technically possible. You would be routing through Athens though, Mykonos to Athens and then Athens to Milos, which puts you at 4 to 5 hours door to door versus 3 to 4 on the direct ferry. The ferry is faster and considerably cheaper on this route so most people stick to the boat.

Your best option

Take the ferry. The crossing to Milos is one of the longer ones in the Cyclades but arriving into Adamas port with the colourful fishing boats and the calm of the bay is a proper island arrival. Start it right and come in by sea.
