Getting from Mykonos to Agistri

Agistri is the smallest of the Saronic islands and perhaps the most underrated. It sits just off the coast of Aegina, covered almost entirely in pine forest that reaches the shoreline in places and gives the island a lush, green character unlike anything in the Cyclades. The water is clear, the beaches are good, the island is small enough to explore on foot or by bicycle and the absence of a large tourist infrastructure is precisely what keeps it feeling like a proper escape. Athenians have been coming here for years for exactly this reason and it has not yet been discovered by the wider international travel market, which makes it something of a find.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Mykonos to Agistri. The connection goes via Piraeus. Take the ferry from Mykonos to Piraeus, which takes around 2.5 to 5 hours depending on the vessel, and then connect onto one of the Saronic ferries from Piraeus to Agistri. The Piraeus to Agistri crossing takes around 55 minutes to 1.5 hours with up to 14 daily departures running year round. You can also reach Agistri via Aegina if your timing works better that way. Total journey time from Mykonos is around 3.5 to 7 hours.

What about flying?

Agistri does not have an airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Mykonos to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Agistri is the fastest overall approach, with total travel time around 3 to 4 hours. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.

Your best option

Fly to Athens and take the ferry from Piraeus. With up to 14 daily crossings the Piraeus to Agistri connection is one of the most frequent in the Saronic and you do not need to book far in advance except on summer weekends when Athenians head out in numbers. Once you arrive, explore the island on bicycle or on foot, find a quiet beach away from the main port and give yourself at least a full day to slow down properly.
