Getting from Mykonos to Folegandros
So you're heading from Mykonos to Folegandros. You have done your research. Folegandros is one of those islands that people who know Greece well always mention and it has stayed relatively quiet compared to its Cyclades neighbours. Small, clifftop villages, no cars in the main town, and a pace of life that feels like Greece used to be before everyone found out about it.
Getting there from Mykonos is straightforward but it is not the quickest crossing so plan your day around it.
Take the ferry
Direct ferries run between Mykonos and Folegandros through the summer season and the crossing takes around 3 to 4 hours. Folegandros is a smaller island so departures are less frequent than the busier Cyclades routes. Check the schedule before you commit to a date because you may not have a departure every day depending on the time of season. Book ahead once you find a crossing that works, the boats to the quieter islands fill up too.
What about flying?
Folegandros does not have an airport so flying is not an option on this route. The ferry is your only way in. Given the kind of island Folegandros is, that feels entirely appropriate.
Your best option
Take the ferry and factor in the crossing time when you are planning your day. Arriving into Folegandros in the late afternoon with the sun dropping over the cliffs is worth timing right. This is an island that rewards the effort it takes to get there.
