Getting from Mykonos to Donoussa
So you're heading from Mykonos to Donoussa. Donoussa is the most remote of the Small Cyclades, the cluster of tiny islands that sit between Naxos and Amorgos in the eastern part of the island group. It is small enough that you can walk across it in an afternoon and quiet enough that you will feel like you have the place almost to yourself. There is a small port village, a few beaches including the beautiful Kendros, and a handful of places to eat and sleep. Nothing more and nothing less. For people who want to completely disconnect, Donoussa is one of the best options in the Aegean.
Take the ferry
Donoussa is served by ferries through the summer season but connections are infrequent. It sits at the end of the Small Cyclades route which means ferries do not pass through every day. Check the timetable carefully before you fix your travel dates, build flexibility into your plans and book as soon as you find a crossing that works. The journey from Mykonos takes around 3 to 4 hours depending on the service and the stops along the way.
What about flying?
Donoussa does not have an airport so flying is not an option on this route. The ferry is your only way in. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.
Your best option
Plan your dates around the ferry schedule and stay long enough to justify the journey. Donoussa is not a one night island. Give it three or four days, slow down completely and let the island do its thing. There are very few places in Greece this quiet and this genuine and that is becoming increasingly rare.
