Getting from Mykonos to Ios

So you're heading from Mykonos to Ios. A classic Cyclades move and a route that a lot of people do, especially in summer. Ios has a reputation but there is more to it than the nightlife and the further you get from the port the more you realise it. Either way, getting there from Mykonos is easy.

The route is direct and the crossing is one of the more enjoyable ones in the Cyclades.

Take the ferry

Direct ferries run between Mykonos and Ios through the summer season and the crossing takes around 2 to 2.5 hours on a fast ferry. SeaJets and Hellenic Seaways both operate on this route. Ios is one of the most popular islands in the Cyclades in peak season so book your tickets ahead of time in July and August. The ferries fill up and you do not want to be scrambling for a seat the morning you are leaving.

What about flying?

Ios does not have an airport so flying is not an option on this route. The ferry is your only way in and honestly it is the right way to arrive. Pulling into Ios port with the whitewashed village sitting above you on the hill is one of those arrivals that sets the tone for the whole stay.

Your best option

Take the ferry, book it early and enjoy the crossing. Ios is one of those islands that looks exactly like you imagined Greece would look, and arriving by sea makes it even better.
