Getting from Mykonos to Poros

Poros is one of the most accessible and least pretentious islands in the Saronic Gulf and that combination is exactly what makes it work. It sits just 200 metres from the Peloponnese mainland town of Galatas, close enough that you can shout across the water, and the narrow channel between them creates one of the most charming harbour settings in Greece. The island is small, easy to explore and popular with Athenians who want a quick escape without the effort of a longer journey. The clock tower above the town is the landmark and the view back across the channel to the mountains of the Peloponnese from a cafe on the waterfront is one of the small pleasures of the Saronic. It is also a natural base for exploring the ancient sites of the Peloponnese, with Epidaurus just a short drive from Galatas.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Mykonos to Poros. The connection goes via Piraeus. Take the ferry from Mykonos to Piraeus, which takes around 2.5 to 5 hours depending on the vessel, and then connect onto the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros. The Piraeus to Poros crossing takes around 50 minutes to just over an hour with up to 6 daily departures. Total journey time from Mykonos is around 3.5 to 6 hours.

What about flying?

Poros does not have an airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Mykonos to Athens and then taking the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Poros is the fastest overall approach, with total travel time around 3 to 4 hours. It is worth knowing that in Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. Almost all island to island travel goes through Athens.

Your best option

Fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus. It is quick, straightforward and the crossing to Poros is one of the shorter ones in the Saronic. If you have a car, driving from Athens to Galatas on the Peloponnese side and taking the short local ferry across is another option, though for most visitors the Piraeus connection is simpler.
