Getting from Volos to Sifnos

If you are heading to Sifnos from Volos you are making your way from a city on the Pagasetic Gulf at the foot of the Pelion peninsula to one of the most respected islands in the Cyclades, on the opposite side of the Aegean. It is known above all for its food, a tradition of pottery and cooking that has made it one of the most regarded gastronomic destinations in the Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Volos to Sifnos. Volos is the main departure point for the Sporades group and has no connection to the Cyclades ferry network. Getting there by sea means driving from Volos to Piraeus, which takes around 3 to 3.5 hours via the E75 motorway, and then boarding the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry, which runs up to 4 times daily in summer and takes around 2.5 hours on the fast boat.

Getting there by air

Sifnos has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Volos has a small airport at Nea Anchialos with limited connections from Athens. Driving from Volos to Piraeus and boarding the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry gives a total journey time of around 6 to 7 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Drive from Volos to Piraeus and board the Piraeus to Sifnos ferry. At around 2.5 hours on the fast boat the Piraeus to Sifnos crossing is one of the more manageable Cyclades connections. The drive from Volos to Piraeus takes around 3 to 3.5 hours via the E75 motorway. If you are traveling with a car, the conventional Piraeus to Sifnos ferry takes your vehicle directly to Kamares port.
