About Christos Mastoras

Early Life

Christos Mastoras was born on November 14, 1986, in Vodino, Dropoli, Albania, to Alfred Mastoras, a member of the Greek minority in Albania. At three and a half, his family relocated to Koukaki, Athens, where he was raised. He formed a band with friends in elementary school, writing and performing lyrics to rhythms his father prepared on the harmonium, and began guitar lessons around the same time.

Musical Style & Sound

Mastoras performs pop-rock, best known as the charismatic frontman of the chart-topping band Melisses. His sound blends modern pop with Greek musical traditions, delivered through soulful vocals and energetic live performances.

Career Rise

As frontman of Melisses, Mastoras helped build one of Greece's most successful bands, earning 23 MAD Video Music Awards, including ten for Best Band. The group represented Cyprus at the WAO Song Contest with "Eimai Allou," placing 14th in the semi-final, then represented Greece with "To Kyma," reaching 11th. Mastoras later competed as a solo artist, performing "Silver Moon" with Playmen and Velix and reaching 19th place in the final. As a solo artist, his hits include "Den Eho Idea," and he has collaborated internationally with artists including Rita Wilson. In 2024, he took on his first major acting role, portraying legendary Greek singer Stelios Kazantzidis in a biographical film about the icon's life.

Diaspora Impact

Mastoras's own background as part of the Greek minority in Albania gives him a direct connection to diaspora audiences who share a similar experience of Greek identity outside Greece's borders. His role portraying Stelios Kazantzidis, one of the most significant figures in Greek diaspora-connected music history, further ties his own story to that broader Greek musical legacy.
