About the Beach
Achla Beach is widely considered one of the most beautiful and ecologically significant coastal landmarks in Greece located on the northeastern coast of Andros. The landscape is defined by its role as a rich bioreserve where the Achla river flows into the sea creating a lush estuary filled with ancient plane trees and a variety of rare wildlife like freshwater crabs and migratory birds. The shore is covered in brilliant white pebbles and emerald waters and the entire area is framed by the small chapel of Agios Nikolaos and the historic Gria lighthouse situated on the opposing rocky headlands. Because access is difficult via a long dirt road or by boat the environment remains a primitive and otherworldly sanctuary where the presence of the forest and the running river create a microclimate entirely different from the rest of the Cyclades.
