About the Beach
Agnontas Beach is a picturesque and historic coastal spot on the southwestern coast of Skopelos, named after the Olympic runner Agnontas who landed here after his victory in 569 BC. It features a shore of small white pebbles and intense emerald-green water, surrounded by a dense forest of pine trees that literally touch the edge of the sea and provide a fresh, shaded environment. The beach is partially organized with a few sunbeds and is famous for its traditional fish tavernas that sit right on the waterfront, serving fresh squid and local seafood directly from the morning catch. It is a destination for those who want to combine a high-quality swim with an authentic maritime atmosphere in a protected natural bay. The water is deep and fresh, offering an invigorating environment for a long soak while watching the small fishing boats move in and out of the harbor. Access is very easy via the main island road or the local bus at the Agnontas stop, which is located just steps from the sand. The entry into the water is via the smooth stones and the clarity is consistently high. The atmosphere is quiet and reflects the traditional spirit of the Sporades. It is a choice for couples and those seeking a scenic lunch by the sea.
