About the Beach
Amarantos Beach is one of the most iconic and photographed coastal spots on the island of Skopelos, famous for the small group of pine trees perched on a rocky outcrop over the sea. It features a rugged shore of white limestone rocks and small pebbled coves with intense turquoise water that is deep and fresh. The beach is not a traditional sandy stretch but a series of rocky platforms that are a choice for sunbathing, diving, and snorkeling among the rich marine life. It gained international fame as a filming location for the movie Mamma Mia, yet it remains largely unorganized and maintains its raw, cinematic beauty. The surrounding landscape is a deep green, providing a dramatic contrast to the electric blue of the Aegean. Access is via a dirt road followed by a short walk through the trees. There are no commercial facilities or umbrellas, so you must be prepared with all your own supplies. The water is exceptionally clean and the visibility is perfect for exploring the underwater caves. The atmosphere is quiet and reflects the natural power of the island. It is a landmark of the southern coastline.
