About the Beach

Kounopetra is a fascinating and very quiet beach located on the southern tip of the Paliki peninsula, named after the "moving rock" that once rhythmically tilted due to geological forces. The shore features a unique, deep orange-red sand and shallow, warm water that is very calm and safe for children. It is a very peaceful destination that feels quite different from the white-pebble beaches of the north. The surrounding landscape is rugged and authentic, with a few traditional tavernas nearby offering local specialties. It is an unorganized beach, which helps maintain its raw and traditional character. The clay-rich earth in the area is often used by visitors for natural skin treatments. It is a fantastic choice for those who want a quiet and interesting swim in a setting that feels connected to the ancient earth and the local history of the island.
