About the Beach
Megali Kolymbithra Beach is the wild and spectacular northern shore of the twin Kolymbithra bays on Tinos, famously known as the premier destination for surfing in the Cyclades. It features a wide stretch of fine sand and intense blue water that is subject to the powerful northern meltemi winds, creating the best waves on the island. The beach is well-organized with a distinctive bohemian vibe, featuring a beach bar made from a converted vintage bus and several rows of sunbeds and umbrellas. Despite its popularity among the younger crowd and athletes, the beach maintains a raw and expansive character that reflects the natural power of the open sea. The water is deep and fresh, providing an invigorating environment for a powerful swim or a professional surf session. Access is via a comfortable road from the village of Komi. The surrounding landscape consists of low hills and a small lake that is a habitat for local birds, adding a unique natural dimension to the scenery. The entry into the water is sandy but can be challenging when the waves are high. The atmosphere is energetic and reflects the modern spirit of the island. It is a landmark of the northern coast.
