About the Beach

Megas Lakkos is a unique and very impressive beach located on the Paliki peninsula, famous for its striking red sand and shallow, warm water. It is essentially an extension of the better-known Xi Beach, but it is generally much quieter and more relaxed, offering a more peaceful version of the same stunning landscape. The clay-rich sand is thought to have therapeutic properties, and the water stays shallow for a long distance, making it one of the best choices on the island for families with young children. The beach is well-organized with sunbeds and several traditional tavernas that offer great views of the small islet of Vardiani on the horizon. It is a very friendly and accessible spot that captures the easy-going energy of the Lixouri area. The contrast between the red sand and the blue sea creates a very memorable and photogenic environment for a relaxing day.
