About the Beach
Mouros Beach is one of the most famous and impressive natural sites on Amorgos located on the southern coast and framed by enormous reddish and grey vertical cliffs. The landscape is exceptionally dramatic featuring two underwater caves at the far end of the shore that can be explored by swimmers adding a sense of mystery and adventure to the primitive environment. The area is unorganized to protect its wild character and the steep descent down a rocky path ensures that the beach remains focused on its geological grandeur rather than commercial development. The contrast between the towering rock formations and the deep blue of the open sea makes it a hallmark of the islands southern coastline and a primary example of its rugged and vertical geography.
