About the Beach
Paraporti Beach is a large and impressive coastal stretch located directly to the right of the peninsula of Chora offering a dramatic view of the islands capital and the solitary Tourlitis lighthouse. The landscape is characterized by its wide sandy shore and the presence of many tamarisk trees that offer natural shade while the Great River springs from the mountains to meet the sea at one end of the bay. Because it is exposed to the northern meltemi the sea here often looks wild and powerful with large waves that highlight the raw and untamed character of the eastern coast. Despite its proximity to the town and the presence of a local beach bar and tavern the environment maintains a sense of grandeur and openness where the gaze remains unobstructed across the endless blue horizon.
