About the Beach

Plakes Beach is a unique coastal area situated within the large bay of Katapola characterized by its massive and flat limestone rock plates that extend directly into the deep sea. Unlike traditional sandy shores the landscape here is defined by these smooth geological formations which provide natural platforms for sunbathing and diving into the exceptionally clear and vibrant waters. The surrounding environment is stark and rocky with very little vegetation which highlights the raw and prehistoric feeling of the islands western coastline. Because the water deepens immediately from the rock edges it is a favored location for experienced swimmers and those seeking a primitive and unrefined connection to the Aegean without the presence of commercial organization.
