History

Annunciation Greek Orthodox Church of Kalamazoo, Michigan has served the Orthodox Christian faithful of southwest Michigan from its home at 507 South Westnedge Avenue, bringing the ancient liturgical and sacramental tradition of the Eastern Church to a university city well removed from the larger Greek Orthodox communities of Detroit and Grand Rapids.

 

From its Greek immigrant origins the parish has evolved into a small, ethnically diverse, and welcoming Orthodox Christian community whose services are conducted entirely in English, reflecting a commitment to making the ancient faith accessible to all who seek it regardless of ethnic background. The parish draws together Orthodox Christians of Greek, Romanian, and many other backgrounds, as well as a growing number of converts to Orthodoxy drawn to the ancient liturgical tradition of the Eastern Church.

 

The community is currently pursuing the exciting challenge of finding a new permanent home to accommodate its growth, a building campaign that reflects the parish's vitality and its confidence in the future of Orthodox Christian life in southwest Michigan.
