History

Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church of Pittsburgh was founded in 1923 by Greek immigrants who had settled on the North Side of the city, pioneers who may have lacked financial means, formal education, or a working command of English, but who dedicated themselves to building a church that would be the center of their community's faith and life. That original North Side parish served generations of Pittsburgh Greeks through the twentieth century, weaving itself into the fabric of the North Side community through an annual Greek Food Festival, community lunches, special events, and the Feed the Hungry project that expressed the parish's commitment to its neighbors.

After fifty-one years at its North Avenue location, the parish made a pivotal decision to follow its membership northward into the suburbs of Allegheny County. A beautiful ten-acre plot of land was purchased from La Roche College at the corner of Babcock Boulevard and Cumberland Road in the North Hills, and a new church was designed by the renowned Byzantine architect Christ J. Kamages of San Francisco. On the Saturday of Pentecost weekend, June 22, 2013, Metropolitan Savas of Pittsburgh and many area clergy celebrated the Thyranoixia, the Opening of the Doors, officially welcoming the community into its new home and marking the beginning of a new era for Holy Trinity in the North Hills of Pittsburgh.

The parish has sustained a full family-centered community life through youth ministries including HOPE, JOY, GOYA, and YAM, educational programs including the Three Hierarchs Bookstore, Church School, Faith and Family Wednesdays, and the St. Nikodemos Men's Fellowship, and philanthropic outreach both locally and through international mission support.
