History
Nativity of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church of Plymouth, Michigan was founded on April 6, 1975 as the first Greek Orthodox church in the western suburbs of Detroit, established to serve the growing number of Greek Orthodox families who had migrated from the city into the communities of Wayne County west of the metropolitan core. The parish was established as a daughter church of Saints Constantine and Helen Greek Orthodox Church of Westland, which had itself served as the mother church of the western Detroit suburbs for decades, and it has grown into a fully independent and vibrant community in its own right.
From its founding the parish built a full institutional life of worship, education, and fellowship at its home at 39851 Five Mile Road in Plymouth Township, growing into a diverse community of friendly people, young and old, of various ethnic backgrounds who gather each Sunday for the Divine Liturgy and the full round of Orthodox sacramental and communal life. The parish hosts an annual Michigan Greek Festival, one of the most popular Greek cultural celebrations in the western Detroit suburbs, drawing visitors from across the region for traditional Greek food, music, dance, and hospitality each year.
