History

Saint George Greek Orthodox Church of High Point, North Carolina has served the Orthodox Christian faithful of the Piedmont Triad from its home at 808 North Hamilton Street, bringing the ancient liturgical and sacramental tradition of the Eastern Church to one of North Carolina's great furniture and manufacturing cities. The parish is dedicated to Saint George the Great Martyr and Trophy-Bearer, the beloved third-century soldier and Christian martyr whose feast day on April 23 is celebrated throughout the Orthodox world, and whose veneration as a protector of the faithful has made him one of the most widely honored saints in Christendom.

 

The parish has evolved over the years from its Greek immigrant roots into a diverse and welcoming Pan-Orthodox community, gathering Orthodox Christians of Greek, Romanian, and many other backgrounds around the ancient Liturgy of the Church each Sunday.
