History

Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church of Euless, Texas was established in 1980, founded to serve the Orthodox Christian faithful of the mid-cities corridor between Dallas and Fort Worth, a rapidly growing suburban region southwest of DFW International Airport that had no Greek Orthodox parish of its own. In its early years the small congregation gathered wherever space could be found, and in 1982 the church launched what would become the annual Mid-Cities Greek FoodFest, a festival that has grown across more than four decades into one of the most beloved Hellenic cultural events in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, drawing over 4,000 visitors each year for Greek food, music, and dance.

In 1985 the parish moved to its present location at 303 Cullum Drive in Euless, and in 1987 the congregation constructed a multi-purpose church and hall building, with much of the interior completed by parishioners themselves, a labor of love reflecting the character of a community that built itself from the ground up. The parish grew steadily through the following decades, drawing Orthodox Christians of many backgrounds to a congregation in which English has always been the primary language of worship. On July 14, 2012, Metropolitan Isaiah of Denver presided over the opening of the doors of a new Byzantine-style church on the Cullum Drive campus, fulfilling a long-held vision of a purpose-built Orthodox sanctuary in the mid-cities. On June 24, 2023, Metropolitan Isaiah returned to consecrate the church, completing its canonical standing after more than four decades of parish life.

Saint John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church at 303 Cullum Drive in Euless serves the Orthodox Christian faithful of the Dallas-Fort Worth mid-cities as a parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of Denver within the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, a vibrant, English-speaking, Pan-Orthodox community welcoming all who seek the ancient faith in the heart of North Texas.
