History

Saint Sophia, Saints Faith, Hope and Agape Greek Orthodox Church of Jeffersonville, Pennsylvania serves the Orthodox Christian faithful of the Valley Forge region of Montgomery County, one of the most historically significant landscapes in the United States. The parish was established in 1981, organized by Greek Orthodox families in the western suburbs of Philadelphia who sought a spiritual home close to where they lived and raised their families.

In July 1991 the parish was blessed to purchase its current eight-acre property on South Trooper Road at the gateway to Valley Forge, providing the community with the land and space to build a permanent home. Groundbreaking for the Cultural Center took place on October 10, 1993, and under the spiritual leadership that followed, the community completed the 16,000-square-foot complex, which serves as the center of parish life for worship, education, fellowship, and community events. The church proper, with its traditional Orthodox architecture and iconography, followed as a further expression of the community's devotion and generosity.

The parish celebrates its patronal feast on September 17, the feast day of Saint Sophia and her three daughters Faith, Hope, and Agape, second-century martyrs who suffered under the Emperor Hadrian and whose example of courageous faith gives the parish its distinctive dual dedication. The community is also well known for its semi-annual Grecian Festivals, which draw visitors from across the greater Philadelphia area for traditional Greek food, music, and dancing.

Today, Saint Sophia, Saints Faith, Hope and Agape Greek Orthodox Church stands at 900 South Trooper Road in Jeffersonville as a parish of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of New Jersey within the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America, a warm and welcoming community serving Orthodox Christians and all who seek the ancient faith in the heart of historic Valley Forge country.
