History
Saints Peter and Paul Greek Orthodox Church of Boulder, Colorado was founded in 1973, when a small group of Orthodox Christians in Boulder began gathering for services at an Episcopal church, led by a priest who made the journey from Denver. Among those earliest faithful was Mary Lymberopoulos, a founding member who had grown up in a city without a Greek Orthodox church and for whom the establishment of a parish in Boulder was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. From those modest beginnings in borrowed space, the community grew steadily, sustained by the faith and commitment of families who understood that building something permanent takes time and sacrifice.
The parish has grown across five decades into a community of approximately 150 families, remarkable in its diversity and in the spirit of welcome that has defined it from its earliest years. Orthodox Christians from Greece, Romania, Serbia, the Palestinian territories, and many other traditionally Orthodox backgrounds worship alongside a substantial number of converts, united by the ancient liturgical tradition of the Eastern Church. Services are offered in as many as eight languages on special occasions, reflecting a congregation drawn from many corners of the Orthodox world who have found their home at Saints Peter and Paul in Boulder.
In October 2023 the parish celebrated its fiftieth anniversary, marking half a century since that first service in an Episcopal church and honoring the founding generation whose dream of an Orthodox Christian community in Boulder had come fully and abundantly to life. The parish serves as a dependency of the Assumption Cathedral in Denver, with the Sunday Divine Liturgy at Saints Peter and Paul listed among the Cathedral's services.
