Getting from Aegina to Thassos

If you are heading to Thassos from Aegina you are making your way to an island in the northern Aegean, just off the Macedonian coast near Kavala. It is covered in pine forests and has long sandy beaches.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Thassos. The island is connected to the mainland only by short ferries from Kavala and Keramoti on the northern coast. Getting there means taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and then either flying or travelling by road northeast to Kavala, which takes around 6 to 7 hours from Athens.

Getting there by air

Thassos has no airport. The nearest airport is Kavala, around 30 kilometres from the Keramoti ferry port. Flying from Aegina means taking the Saronic ferry to Piraeus first, then the metro to Athens Airport, then flying to Kavala, followed by a taxi to Keramoti and the short ferry to Thassos. Total travel time is around 6 to 7 hours.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, fly to Kavala and take a taxi to Keramoti for the short ferry to Thassos. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and then drive northeast via the E75 motorway to Kavala and take the ferry across to Thassos.
