Getting from Aegina to Zakynthos

If you are heading to Zakynthos from Aegina you are making your way to one of the most amazing of the Ionian islands, on the opposite side of Greece. It has Navagio Beach, the shipwreck cove with towering white cliffs and turquoise water that is one of the most photographed places in the Mediterranean.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Aegina to Zakynthos. No Ionian island is connected by sea to any Saronic island. The most practical ferry approach is to take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes, and then travel by road to Kylini on the western Peloponnese for the ferry to Zakynthos, which takes around 1 hour 15 minutes. The drive from Athens to Kylini takes around 3 to 3.5 hours via the E65 motorway and Patras.

Getting there by air

Zakynthos has an international airport. Taking the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus, the metro to Athens Airport and flying to Zakynthos takes around 1 hour in the air. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours and is the most practical approach for most travellers.

Your best option

Take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and fly to Zakynthos. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, take the Saronic ferry from Aegina to Piraeus and drive to Kylini for the ferry across to Zakynthos.
