Getting from Agathonisi to Chania

If you are heading to Chania from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to the most intimate of Crete's three main cities, with a Venetian old town of narrow lanes, a fortress above the sea and a long sandy beach running east from the town centre.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Chania. The most practical ferry approach is to take the ferry from Agathonisi to Rhodes and then connect to Chania by the overnight ferry from Rhodes, which takes around 9 to 12 hours. This keeps the journey within the Aegean network without going through Athens but takes the better part of two days in total.

Getting there by air

Chania has an international airport with connections from Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Chania, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos and fly to Chania via Athens. It is the most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, fly to Athens and take the overnight Piraeus to Chania ferry, which departs in the evening, takes around 8 to 9 hours and arrives in the morning with your vehicle ready to go.
