Getting from Agathonisi to Lesvos

If you are heading to Lesvos from Agathonisi you are making your way from the northern Dodecanese group to the third largest island in Greece, in the northeastern Aegean. It is the birthplace of Sappho, an island of olive groves, ouzo distilleries and a capital at Mytilini with a Byzantine castle and one of the most enjoyable waterfronts in the northern Aegean.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Agathonisi to Lesvos. Getting there by sea means taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Samos and then connecting via the wider Aegean ferry network to Lesvos, which involves multiple stops and takes the better part of two days. Flying is the only realistic option for most travellers.

Getting there by air

Lesvos has its own airport with daily connections from Athens. Taking the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos, flying to Athens and then Athens to Mytilini, gives a total journey time of around 5 to 6 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights. A direct seasonal connection from Samos to Lesvos may also be available so check before routing through Athens.

Your best option

Take the local ferry from Agathonisi to Leros or Samos and fly to Lesvos via Athens. It is the only realistic approach. Check whether a direct Samos to Lesvos service is available for your dates as it would save the Athens connection entirely.
