Getting from Antipaxos to Kalamata

If you are heading to Kalamata from Antipaxos you are making your way from a tiny island in the Ionian Sea to the capital of Messenia in the southern Peloponnese, on the opposite side of Greece. It has a renovated waterfront, good food and easy access to the Mani peninsula and the Byzantine ruins of Mystras.

Take the ferry

There are no scheduled ferries from Antipaxos to Kalamata. Antipaxos has no ferry port of its own and is accessible only by sea taxi from Gaios on Paxos. Getting to Kalamata means taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Igoumenitsa and then driving south through the Peloponnese to Kalamata, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Igoumenitsa via Patras and Tripoli. Alternatively take the sea taxi to Paxos, ferry to Corfu, fly to Athens and then fly to Kalamata.

Getting there by air

Kalamata has an international airport with connections from Athens. Antipaxos has no airport either. Taking the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu and flying to Athens and then Athens to Kalamata takes around 55 minutes on the second leg. Total journey time is around 7 to 8 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos, the ferry from Paxos to Corfu, fly to Athens and then fly to Kalamata. It is the fastest and most practical approach. If you are traveling with a car, take the sea taxi from Antipaxos to Paxos and drive south through the Peloponnese via Patras and Tripoli to Kalamata, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Igoumenitsa.
