Getting from Crete to Evia
If you are heading to Evia from Crete you are going to the second largest island in Greece and one of the least known outside the country, a long mountainous island of forests, thermal springs and coastline with a dramatically different character at its northern and southern ends.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Crete to Evia. The island is connected to the mainland by road bridges and short ferry crossings from the Attica and Boeotian coasts, none of which connect to Crete. Getting there means flying to Athens and then either crossing the bridge at Halkida, around 90 kilometres from central Athens, or taking one of the short mainland to Evia ferry connections.
Getting there by air
Evia has no commercial airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then the drive or bus to Halkida takes around 1.5 hours. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours.
Your best option
Fly to Athens and drive or take the bus to Halkida. The bridge crossing into Evia is straightforward and from Halkida you can head north toward the thermal baths at Edipsos or south toward the remote beaches of the southern tip depending on where you are heading.
