Getting from Crete to Lavrio
If you are heading to Lavrio from Crete you are making your way to the port closest to Athens Airport on the southeastern tip of Attica, the departure point for ferries to Kea, Kythnos and several other Cycladic islands and a useful hub for anyone continuing their journey from there.
Take the ferry
There is a direct seasonal ferry from Crete to Lavrio running from April to October, taking around 5 to 6 hours. It is one of the more practical connections for anyone heading to Kea or Kythnos as it puts you at exactly the right port without crossing the city to Piraeus. Outside of the summer season the service does not run and you would need to use Piraeus instead.
Getting there by air
Lavrio has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens, around 35 kilometres to the northwest. Flying from Crete to Athens takes around 50 minutes and then a taxi or bus to Lavrio takes around 30 to 40 minutes from the airport. Total travel time is around 2 to 3 hours and is the fastest overall approach.
Your best option
Fly to Athens and take a taxi or bus to Lavrio from the airport. It is the fastest approach and the proximity of Lavrio to Athens Airport makes the connection straightforward. If the seasonal direct ferry from Crete is running for your dates and you are heading to Kea or Kythnos, it is worth considering as it saves the Athens transfer entirely.
