Getting from Mykonos to Rhodes
Rhodes is the largest island in the Dodecanese and one of the most visited in all of Greece, which means the connections are good but the journey from Mykonos is a long one whichever way you do it. The island has a lot to offer. The medieval old town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best preserved in the Mediterranean, the beaches on the east coast are excellent and the interior has a quiet beauty that most visitors who stick to the resorts never see.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry between Mykonos and Rhodes. The connection goes via Piraeus which makes this a serious journey by sea, somewhere in the region of 12 to 16 hours in total. Some people do this as an overnight crossing and wake up in Rhodes which takes the sting out of the travel time. If you are island hopping down through the Dodecanese it can make sense as part of a longer route. If you just need to get from Mykonos to Rhodes, flying is the more practical option.
What about flying?
Both Mykonos and Rhodes have airports so flying is a straightforward option here. You would be routing through Athens, Mykonos to Athens and then Athens to Rhodes, with the total journey taking around 3 to 4 hours door to door depending on your connection. It is significantly quicker than the ferry on this route and for most people the sensible choice.
Your best option
Fly. The ferry is a long haul for a route this distance and unless you have the time and the inclination for an overnight crossing, the Athens connection gets you there in a fraction of the time. Rhodes is worth saving your energy for.
