Getting from Rhodes to Ioannina

If you are heading to Ioannina from Rhodes you are making your way to a city in the mountains of Epirus in northwestern Greece, on the western shore of Lake Pamvotis with the Pindos range behind it.

Take the ferry

There is no ferry to Ioannina. It is an inland city with no sea connection. Getting there from Rhodes means flying to Athens first.

Getting there by air

Both Rhodes and Ioannina have airports. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Ioannina takes around 50 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. The airport is just 4 kilometres from the city centre.

Your best option

Fly via Athens. It is the only practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then drive northwest via the E65 motorway to Ioannina, which takes around 5 to 6 hours from Athens. The KTEL bus from Athens Kifissos terminal to Ioannina runs several times daily and takes around 6 to 7 hours.
