Getting from Rhodes to Samos
If you are heading to Samos from Rhodes you are making your way to an island in the northeastern Aegean, close to the Turkish coast. It is green and mountainous with wine production dating back to antiquity and the UNESCO-listed Heraion sanctuary.
Take the ferry
There is a direct ferry from Rhodes to Samos running several times a week, taking around 7 to 10 hours. Faster vessel options are also available seasonally, taking considerably less time. Both connect the two islands without going through Athens. Check the schedule before planning around it and build your travel dates around the available departures.
Getting there by air
Both Rhodes and Samos have airports. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Samos takes around 50 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly via Athens if time matters. At around 3 to 4 hours total it is considerably faster than the direct ferry. If you want the sea journey and have the time, the direct ferry or the seasonal faster service are both good options and save going through Athens entirely.
