Getting from Rhodes to Santorini
If you are heading to Santorini from Rhodes you are making your way to the most iconic island in Greece, to the northwest. It has caldera views, volcanic beaches and the ancient site of Akrotiri, a Minoan city preserved under volcanic ash.
Take the ferry
There is a direct seasonal ferry from Rhodes to Santorini running in summer, taking around 8 to 10 hours. The route is not year-round so check the schedule before planning around it. Outside of the summer season the connection goes via Piraeus. Book ahead in July and August.
Getting there by air
Both Rhodes and Santorini have airports. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Santorini takes around 45 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly to Santorini via Athens. At around 3 to 4 hours total it is considerably faster than the seasonal ferry. If the direct summer ferry works for your schedule and you want the sea journey it is a good option. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then take the ferry from Piraeus to Santorini.
