Getting from Rhodes to Aegina
If you are heading to Aegina from Rhodes you are making your way to the closest of the Saronic islands to Athens, to the northwest. It has a handsome harbour town, the remarkably preserved Temple of Aphaia and pistachio groves that produce some of the finest pistachios in Greece.
Take the ferry
There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Aegina. Getting there means taking the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus and then connecting onto the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Aegina, which takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes with around 20 daily departures.
Getting there by air
Aegina has no airport. The nearest airport is Athens. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Aegina takes around 40 minutes to 1 hour 20 minutes. Total travel time is around 3 to 4 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.
Your best option
Fly to Athens and take the Saronic ferry from Piraeus to Aegina. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice as it saves the cost and complexity of shipping a vehicle separately.
