Getting from Rhodes to Thassos

If you are heading to Thassos from Rhodes you are making your way to an island in the northern Aegean, just off the Macedonian coast near Kavala. It is covered in pine forests and has long sandy beaches.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Thassos. The island is connected to the mainland only by short ferries from Kavala and Keramoti on the northern coast. Getting to either port from Rhodes means flying via Athens first.

Getting there by air

Thassos has no airport. The nearest airport is Kavala, around 30 kilometres from the Keramoti ferry port. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Kavala takes around 1 hour 15 minutes, followed by a taxi to Keramoti and the short ferry to Thassos taking around 40 minutes. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly to Kavala via Athens and take a taxi to Keramoti for the short ferry to Thassos. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then drive northeast via the E75 motorway to Kavala and take the ferry across to Thassos.
