Getting from Rhodes to Koufonisia

If you are heading to Koufonisia from Rhodes you are making your way to one of the Small Cyclades islands, to the northwest. It has some of the finest beaches in the Cyclades and a lively summer atmosphere.

Take the ferry

There is no direct ferry from Rhodes to Koufonisia. Getting there means taking the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus and then connecting via Naxos, with the ferry from Naxos to Koufonisia taking around 45 minutes.

Getting there by air

Koufonisia has no airport. The nearest airport is Naxos, which has connections from Athens. Flying from Rhodes to Athens takes around 1 hour and then Athens to Naxos takes around 45 minutes, followed by the short ferry to Koufonisia taking around 45 minutes. Total travel time is around 4 to 5 hours. In Greece, airlines do not operate direct inter island flights.

Your best option

Fly to Naxos via Athens and take the ferry across to Koufonisia. It is the most practical approach. If you are travelling with a car, the overnight ferry from Rhodes to Piraeus is the practical choice, then take the ferry from Piraeus to Naxos and connect to Koufonisia from there.
