About the Beach
Almiros Beach is a very long and popular sandy beach just south of Agios Nikolaos that is unique because a small cold river flows right into the sea at one end making the water feel chilly in some spots and warm in others. The water is very shallow for a long way out, which is great for playing games like paddleball or football in the ocean, and the sand is soft and perfect for building big sandcastles or burying your friends in the sand. There are lots of trees and some swampy areas nearby where you can see birds and other animals, and because it is so long, it never feels too crowded even on busy summer days when everyone from the town comes down to visit.
