About the Beach
Itanos Beach is a really cool and quiet spot way up on the northeastern tip of Crete that is actually made of three different small coves where you can swim right next to the ruins of an ancient city that sank into the sea a long time ago. The water is super clear and turquoise, and you can even see some old stone walls and pieces of pottery if you go snorkeling near the rocks at the edge of the sand. There are a few palm trees scattered around which makes it look like a desert island, and because it is a protected historical site, there are no noisy shops or big hotels nearby so it feels very peaceful and like you have traveled back in time to the days of the Minoans.
