About the Beach
Aspros Gialos is a majestic beach on the western side of Ithaca, known for its large white pebbles and deep, cool water that is characteristic of the Ionian. The name literally means "White Beach," and the bright stones reflect the sun to create a very intense and beautiful light. Access is via a steep set of stairs from the road above, which provides a fantastic aerial view of the bay before you arrive. The water is exceptionally clean and gets deep very quickly, making it a favorite for confident swimmers. There are a few umbrellas for rent during the peak season, but it remains a very natural and unorganized spot. It faces the sunset, so the light in the late afternoon is particularly golden and beautiful. It is a great place to experience the raw, steep-cliffed beauty that defines the western coastline of the island.
