About the Beach
Kalamaki Beach is a long and wide sandy beach on the southeastern coast of Zakynthos, forming part of the wide Laganas Bay. It features fine golden sand and very shallow, warm water that is a choice for families. The beach is famous as a major nesting ground for the Caretta caretta sea turtles, and for 2026, strict environmental regulations remain in place to protect the nests, including limited hours and no umbrellas in certain zones. The beach is partially organized with sunbeds in designated areas, but it maintains a natural and open character. The surrounding landscape is dominated by the impressive gypsum cliffs at one end of the shore. The water is clean and consistently calm, offering a safe environment for swimming. It is a destination for those who want to experience the natural beauty and wildlife of the island in a respectful way. The entry into the water is very smooth and sandy for a long distance.
