About the Beach
Porto Roxa Beach is a unique and strikingly beautiful rocky cove on the western coast of Zakynthos, famously known for its dramatic fjords and its high stone diving platform that juts out over the deep blue sea. It features a rugged shoreline of white limestone rocks and small rocky inlets with exceptionally clear turquoise water that is deep and fresh. The beach is not a traditional sandy stretch but a series of rocky platforms where local tavernas have placed comfortable sunbeds and "dream beds" for visitors to relax right above the water. It is a destination for those who love diving, snorkeling, and experiencing the raw power of the Ionian Sea in a setting that feels like a natural amphitheater. The water is consistently clean and the visibility is perfect for exploring the underwater caves and rock formations where marine life is plentiful. Access is via a scenic winding road through the mountain village of Agios Leon, offering panoramic views of the rugged coastline. There are no trees for natural shade, but the local facilities provide plenty of umbrellas and shaded seating areas. The entry into the water is via a metal ladder or a jump from the rocks, and the depth is immediate. The atmosphere is social and energetic.
