About the Beach
Gerakas Beach is a spectacular and strictly protected sandy sanctuary at the southeastern tip of Zakynthos, famous as one of the most important nesting grounds for the endangered Caretta caretta sea turtle. It features a long stretch of fine golden sand and very shallow, crystal-clear turquoise water, surrounded by impressive clay cliffs that create a dramatic and pristine landscape. Because it is part of the National Marine Park, the beach is subject to strict 2026 conservation rules: access is prohibited from sunset to sunrise, and visitors must stay within the designated areas to protect the marked turtle nests. There are no permanent structures or noisy beach bars, and only a limited number of sunbeds are available to minimize human pressure on the environment. It is a destination for nature lovers and those who want to experience the raw beauty of the Ionian Sea in a setting of total silence and respect. The water is warm and the entry is very easy and sandy for all swimmers, providing a safe and inviting spot for a long soak. You should visit the nearby turtle information center to learn about the local wildlife. The atmosphere is quiet and reflects the natural power of the coast.
