Kalamos is a long and rugged beach on the eastern coast of Ios, known for its deep blue water and very quiet atmosphere. The shore is a mix of sand and large pebbles, and it is surrounded by a wild landscape of dry hills and traditional stone walls. It is much less visited than the western beaches, making it an ideal choice for those who value solitude and space. The water gets deep quite quickly, offering a refreshing and vigorous swim for experienced swimmers. There are no facilities here, so you should be prepared with water and snacks. Nearby is the small chapel of Agios Ioannis, which adds a traditional touch to the scenery. It is a beautiful and honest destination that captures the quiet, rural side of Ios away from the main village.
