About the Beach

Limani Dokou Beach is a very famous and historic harbor on the island of Dokos because it is actually the site where archaeologists found the oldest shipwreck in the entire world. While you are swimming in the calm and sheltered water of the bay, you are floating over a place where an ancient cargo ship sank more than four thousand years ago, which makes it feel like you are swimming in a giant outdoor museum. The beach is mostly rocky and the water is very still and clear, making it an excellent spot for snorkeling to see if you can spot any old pieces of pottery hiding in the sand at the bottom of the sea. It is a very popular stopping point for sailboats because the hills provide a safe place to hide from the waves, and the whole area is filled with a sense of ancient mystery and natural beauty that is very hard to find anywhere else on the coast.
