About the Beach

Makry Gialos Beach is a very long and friendly sandy beach on the south coast of Crete that is famous for having water that stays extremely shallow for a really long way out into the sea. This makes it one of the best places for people who are still learning how to swim because you can walk out for a hundred meters and the water will still only be up to your knees. The sand is soft and warm, and there are dozens of little restaurants and shops right along the edge of the beach, so you never have to go far to find something to eat or a place to buy a new bucket and spade for the sand.
