About the Beach

Plakes is a stunning and very quiet beach located on the southern part of Ios, often overlooked in favor of the more accessible spots. The shore is a mix of fine sand and pebbles, and the water is an incredible shade of deep blue that remains very clear even at great depths. Because it is located in a relatively remote area, most visitors arrive by boat or follow a long dirt track, which keeps the environment peaceful and uncrowded. There are no facilities or trees for shade, so the landscape feels open, wild, and typical of the rugged Cyclades. It is a fantastic place for those who enjoy snorkeling along the rocky edges of the bay where the marine life is abundant. The sense of isolation here is a major draw for travelers who want to escape the main tourist centers and spend a day in a natural and silent environment.
